Grilled Cheese Sandwiches... with a Twist!

(Originally written May 2, 2013)

Anyone who knows me knows that I love, savory, sweet, sometimes spicy and always cheesy foods and dishes.  Well, a simple grilled cheese sandwich will often hit the spot.  But we're not just talking, "slap a piece of Kraft singles between two slices of white bread."  Oh no!  I'm referring to the real deal:  the creme-de-la-creme in grilled cheese.  With the right ingredients, a grilled cheese sandwich can be a true delicacy.

Don't believe me?

What's your favorite deli-style cheese?  White American maybe, or Swiss, Provolone, Cheddar, Sharp Cheddar, Colby Jack?  You catch my drift.  (1) Take your favorite whole-grain, wheat or bread made with unbleached flour; (2) Slap your favorite butter or margarine on each side of the slices; (3) Preheat your non-stick frying pan with butter or your favorite cooking oil; (4) Add two slices of your favorite deli-cheese and place it in-between your bread slices; (5) Prepare yourself for a grilled cheese sandwich like no other. =)

And if you're feeling adventurous, take Grandma's or Momma's "grilled cheese and bacon sandwich" to another level by adding your some tasty veggies, like spinach (imagine a spinach dip within two pieces of bread) or sliced grilled chicken pieces and peppers.  Seem like a panini to you yet?  Well, maybe in a way.  But the cheese is the focus everyone.  The meat, veggies or savory bread choices are just an added bonus.

Numerous restaurants and cafes capitalize off this simple idea of taking a grilled cheese sandwich to the next level.  My taste buds are craving such a delectable treat as I write.  A lovely post listed on Yahoo! Shine by inspired my verbal tango with my love for grilled cheese!  Check out the article here, which features a variety of eateries serving The 15 Best Grilled Cheese in America.

Until next time, make sure you enjoy your next snack with these lovely grilled cheese renditions in mind. =)
