Outfit of the Day / OOTD: Patterned Dress for Fall / Autumn

I really enjoyed wearing this outfit and the fluffy scarf kept my neck and chest warm in the cool crisp air on Monday.  My Nana (grandmother) bought this dress for me a few years ago at J.C. Penney.  She always picks out stylish and artsy clothes for me; she told me the pattern on this dress reminded her of things she wore when she was young.  I definitely picked up a lot of things style wise from my Nana and my aunt.

This outfit was comfy yet cute and fit well with running around to different appointments.  The cream/ivory white sweater was a gift as well that I've had for a few years.  The scarf is a few years old too.  The lace up combat boots are only a little over a year old and I believe I bought them at DSW (my favorite shoe store for sure, right behind Shoe Carnival).  On the East Coast in the States, Fall is in full swing now so items similar to these are readily available.  Hope you all enjoy this look.  Thanks for reading! ♥

Shea Moisture African Black Soap Body Wash: First Impression

This is not a sponsored post.

I really wanted to record a video about this but since I'm beyond tired right now and fighting my allergies, I figured I'd write this post instead.

Tonight is the first night I used Shea Moisture's African Black Body Wash on my hair/scalp -- well mostly my scalp.  For the past two weeks, I've been having a really bad eczema flare up on my scalp.  Spring and Fall are usually when my flare ups are the worst.  Instead of reaching for my Selsun Blue shampoo, I decided to give black soap a try.

For almost a month, I've been using the African Black Soap Face and Body Bar from Shea Moisture on my face and I'm quite pleased with the results.  My skin is super sensitive and oily, making it acne prone.  Since SheaMoisture's blend has been working well for my face, I felt the time was right to give it a try on my scalp.

I literally just washed my hair so my first impression is fresh. :)  I love how clean my scalp feels, without my scalp feeling dry.  Another thing I noticed is that my hair doesn't feel stripped.  My scalp doesn't feel tight after using the liquid black soap, which is how it feels sometimes after using my Selsun Blue shampoo.  Since my skin all over has been extra oily this month, I'm hoping that the oats included the black soap will help absorb some of the excess oil on my scalp.  Yes, an oily scalp and eczema do not mix!

My plan is to wash my hair every-other day this week.  Today is Monday (at least while I'm writing this post) and that means I'll wash my hair, specifically my scalp, again on Wednesday and Friday.

***FYI:  I rarely shampoo my hair shaft/actual locs every single time I wash my hair.  Instead, I let water run through my locs for about two minutes, shampoo my scalp, and then follow up with my {{favorite mix of conditioners}}.  I typically dilute all my products, including shampoos and conditioners.  Right now, I'm using the SheaMoisture African Black Soap Body Wash straight from the bottle.

I only plan to keep this schedule up until my eczema calms down.  I also plan to update you guys each day on how my scalp is doing and how it is reacting to this new product.  In case you're interested, I've listed below more info about the product and the ingredients. See you in my next post!

Style of the Day: Rugged Chic

I love this look.  I always mix unexpected prints and patterns with each other.  The animal print high waist pants paired with a sweater embroidered with bees adds interest.  Sticking with a wildlife/nature theme, I added a pair of crescent shaped mirror earrings and rabbit ear and cat ear rings.  Both the neutral colored loafers and the burgundy scarf complete this "ruggedly chic" look.

Style of the Day: Sweater Dress Great for a Shopping Trip

I created this outfit while thinking of shopping in an outdoor outlet mall.  Popping in and out of stores can be uncomfortable with a heavy coat to take on and off and carry.  So, this look features a heavy knit sweater dress, a warm knit scarf, and riding boots.  You can stay warm and still be extremely cute, especially with the stylish knit hat.  I chose two pieces of jewelry, earrings and a long multi-chain necklace, with mixed metals.

All the clothing and accessories featured in this look are listed below.  Thanks so much for reading -- see you in my next post! ♥

Favorite Conditioners for Locs, Dreadlocks, Natural Hair: Add Moisture and Keep Hair Soft

These two conditioners are definitely my favorite products for my hair.  Since I big chopped {{about 4 years ago}}, both the Herbal Essence Long Term Relationship Conditioner and the Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Conditioner have kept my hair soft, moisturized, and minimized the amount of breakage I experienced.  Even with me blow drying my loose natural hair early on in my journey, these conditioners helped me to retain length -- a big goal for many women who go natural.  Now that my hair is loc'd, I still keep my routine the same.  The main difference is that every single product I place in my hair is diluted first in a spray bottle.  My top picks for spray bottles that are easy to use and that won't break the bank are from Target's up&up brand and a spray bottle I found at Sally Beauty Supply.

Originally, I used two separate bottles by putting one conditioner in one bottle and a second conditioner in a separate bottle.  But for this past year, I have been combining the conditioners into one single bottle instead.  This method works best for me and is less time consuming than my previous method.  For each spray bottle, I add about 2 or 3 squirts of each conditioner I want to use and then fill the bottle a little above halfway with water.  Diluting all my shampoos, conditioners, and even oils has allowed me to prevent buildup in my locs.  Listed above are links to all the products I've mentioned, including both of the spray bottles I use.  Thanks so much for reading! ♥

OOTD / Outfit of the Day: Floral & Coral

Floral and coral:  a title that came to my mind instantly.  This outfit features one of my newest pair of denim jeans from Old Navy, The Sweetheart style.  {{I share more about these jeans and more in this haul video.}}  The coral colored tank contrasted well with the light blue gladiator sandals I wore and the airy floral blouse.  Instead of adding color with a belt, I kept it simple with a silver buckled black belt.  For earrings, I wore pearl white pendant earrings, a long necklace with multicolored beads and polished rocks, and a light brown octagon shaped wooden bangle.  My mom loved this outfit.  I definitely picked up this technique of using more than one pop of color in an outfit from her.  Thank you so much for reading!  See you in my next post. ♥
